I wrote this for an assignment when asked to write a short story that was character driven. My goal of the story was to make it feel real, like this could actually happen to someone. My initial thoughts for the story was to base it off of the idea of exclusion and being alone. However I wanted the main character to have a close friend that could act as an anchor. This changed the story to be more based off the idea of two friends growing closer through a tough situation.
